Chosen Schmosen
The story of Arthur Ost
I don't believe we are a chosen people. I think that's bullshit. Pure bullshit.
We are not chosen. We are just people. We should learn from our heritage that
we must choose to be charitable. The Bible tells us to be good. We learn that
from our history; its in our bones. You gotta be good to people. Plain and simple.
Jews have been oppressed, driven out of Egypt, stoned, ridiculed, thrown into
concentration camps and slaughtered. But chosen? That's bullshit.
I feel connected to the Jewish people, but my connection is akin to what Paul
Robeson said that morning at the Abyssinian Baptist church in Harlem. After
the Peekskill riots. "Blacks and Jews have similar histories of oppression
and rising above their persecutors," he said. "We Negroes owe a great
debt of gratitude to those who stood by the hundreds and defended me and all
of us earlier this week." Yeah, I know relations have disintegrated but
I still think we can stand as one people. If you have common sense, then you
think...we have common enemies. We are natural allies. Anyone who has been oppressed
can stand together. At least that night in Peekskill we did....
